Benson Nguyen died in May. The Orange County District Attorney’s Office says Benson was going more than 40 miles per hour before losing control and slamming into a light pole.

Garden Grove police said the e-motorcycle he was riding was not street legal and emphasized it was not an e-bike, noting it did not have pedals and was more comparable to a dirt bike that would be used for off-roading.

The teenage boy who died after he crashed while riding an electric motorcycle in Garden Grove has been identified as Benson Nguyen.

In addition to a child endangerment charge, his father, Vu Thanh Nguyen, 56, is facing a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Prosecutors say he bought his son a “faster and more powerful” e-motorcycle despite “multiple warnings about his son’s reckless riding and the fact that his son was repeatedly injured while riding a different electric vehicle.”
