Authorities said the teen was shot by 20-year-old Paul Anthony Cruz Jr. after he forced entry into the residence just after 11 a.m. Thursday. Kurdian died from her injuries.
The shooting occurred at an apartment complex on the 800 block of West Huntington Drive, where police responded to reports of a disturbance and a shooting.
Investigators say Cruz fled the scene after the shooting. Officers later found him in a Petco parking lot in Pasadena, where authorities say he shot himself about an hour after the initial shooting.
Arcadia and Pasadena police were investigating the second shooting at South Arroyo Parkway and East Glenarm Street where crime-scene tape blocked off a parking lot near a Petco and other businesses.
Authorities said Cruz was transported to a hospital. As of Friday morning, he remained in critical condition.

“We look out the window, there’s this guy, he’s laying face down on the floor. A couple seconds later, police officers show up and they close off the area,” said Michael Amini, manager at Alliance Auto Body Works.
“It was horrible. It was a bad sight. I mean, it’s not something that you wanna keep staring at and, you know, you look at it once and you look away. It was not a pretty sight at all,” Amini added.
Neighbors said they were shocked by the violence and remembered Kurdian as a teenager who was often seen with Cruz.
“Her mother is a wonderful lady, you know, she works hard for her two kids and she has a younger sister,” one neighbor said. “They seemed to get along well with her boyfriend, you know, they got along so well and we saw them all the time….he was very polite. You never know. You never know who you’re with.”
