The Los Angeles Filipino-American United Church of Christ will open its doors Saturday for its first-ever Filipino American History Month celebration.
The free community fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring light bites, live music, storytelling, and family games.
“Check out our lumpia making section, our parol making – the stars,” volunteer and church member Erlyn Munda said.
“It’s almost Christmas, and in the Philippines, we have beautiful, beautiful parols, with lights in them and big ones, too.”

Church moderator Robert Gabon said the decision to host this event came easy.
“Well, I think it’s just a great time for our church, being a Filipino-based church in a vibrant Filipino community, to just share the story of our culture and our history,” Gabon said.

Eagle Rock is home to a large Filipino community and Filipino businesses.
Gabon said the church has been serving this community for over 40 years, but you don’t have to be Filipino to enjoy Saturday’s event.
“We just like to welcome the community so we can embrace them, so they can be part of the festivities, and so that we can share little bits of our culture and history with everyone.”
