PACIFIC PALISADES, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Eyewitness News interviewed Mayor Bass on Tuesday in Pacific Palisades where she said she was inspired by the progress as the town is being rebuilt.

Bass is in a competitive race against her once ally, Councilmember Nithya Raman. Some, including Councilwoman Traci Park, have criticized Raman for not being present in the Palisades until she decided to run for mayor.
I read Bass this quote from Raman about the Palisades and specifically Park: “As mayor, I’ll be the strongest partner to her and Palisades residents who help them rebuild and return home as quickly as possible.”
Bass responded with a small laugh.
“Promises are wonderful. But what have you done since the Palisades Fire broke out? Councilwoman Park and I have been joined at the hip even before the fires. We have worked collaboratively on everything,” Bass said. “The ballot initiative that would exempt Palisadians from extra taxes if they sell their land is something we did jointly. I did an executive directive calling for it. Traci Park shepherded through council, and now it’s on the ballot. Councilwoman Raman did not even bother to show up. It’s my understanding that almost every member of the council came here out of an act of solidarity and concern for their colleague. She was one of the only ones that did not have time to come here. So now you come and say you wanna work with her?”

Bass had been invited to attend a hearing led by a house oversight committee investigating homeless fraud in Los Angeles, which was supposed to take place in D.C. on Tuesday. I asked Bass about why she did not attend.
“From the beginning of the Trump administration, the administration has been after the city of Los Angeles. Investigations were initiated within the first month. We know six months later, our city was the first city to be invaded by the U.S. military. I do not believe that has ever happened in U.S. history. And now, to have the congressional committee go in the same line, it’s not surprising,” she said.
On the threats from Paramount to leave Los Angeles for Texas, Bass said she’s concerned, which is why she’s supporting a settlement between Paramount Skydance and California Attorney General Rob Bonta.
