LOS ANGELES (KABC) — It could be really expensive if you plan on traveling for the holidays. Jet fuel prices are skyrocketing as well.

When the cost of fuel goes up for planes, the cost to ride on planes goes up. Travelers and travel experts alike are encouraging people to book early and plan ahead for that next trip.
In just the last two weeks, the average cost for a barrel of jet fuel has risen more than 10%. Today, a barrel of fuel costs $181.46. Only last month it was just shy of $159 a barrel.
The International Air Transport Association says the state of aviation fuel costs are too high and production is limited. This can drive up the costs of plane tickets.

“Some of the most popular destinations were actually up to 20% higher than the year before, and so, of course people are going to have to plan for that additional money,” said Doug Shupe, Autoclub of Southern California spokesperson.
