Smoke billows across 170 Freeway lanes in Sun Valley after brush fire erupts nearby

SUN VALLEY, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — White smoke drifted over lanes of the 170 Freeway in Sun Valley after a brush fire erupted near homes Thursday afternoon.

The fire broke out in the 8000 block of Daha Place and was burning behind homes along a narrow strip of grass next to the freeway soundwall.

Crews stopped forward progress of the blaze after 47 minutes, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The fire grew to about 1 acre and no structures were threatened.

AIR7 video showed white smoke billowing across freeway lanes, though traffic continued moving past the scene.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known. No injuries were reported.
