SUN VALLEY, Calif. (KABC) — An SUV with 12 people inside crashed into a hillside and overturned Saturday on the 5 Freeway in Sun Valley.

The solo-vehicle crash was reported at 1:25 a.m. Saturday on the northbound side of the freeway, south of Sheldon Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Witnesses told the CHP a black SUV spun out, overturned onto its roof and was blocking lanes. Someone involved in the crash reported 12 people were standing on the right hand shoulder.

The Highway Patrol later reported that about 10 people needed medical attention. A CHP spokesman said they appeared to involve complaints of pain.
Whether anyone was transported to a hospital was unclear.
The CHP issued a SigAlert at 2:24 a.m. shutting down lanes Nos. 3 and 4 of the northbound 5 Freeway in the area. It was canceled at 3:32 a.m.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
