Patricia Vuagniaux believes someone broke into her home Monday afternoon while she was at a doctor’s appointment. Her husband had also left the home about 15 minutes before the suspected break-in.

Vuagniaux says despite an in-depth security system, including reinforced windows and a lock on her bedroom closet, where she kept the bags, the thieves still somehow managed to make their way inside.

“They were strategic enough to avoid the Ring camera in the front so they came through the side. They knew exactly what they were doing,” she said.

Video from inside the home shows shattered glass and the ransacked closet, where Vuagniaux kept her prized collection of Hermes Birkin bags that she estimates was worth $250,000-300,000.

She says she started collecting them 20 years ago and considered them part of her retirement savings.

In addition to the handbags, she says they also stole watches and a jewelry box that held her daughters’ baby teeth – the loss of which she says hurts the most.

Now, she’s warning other homeowners that expensive security measures may not be enough.

“I feel like there’s been a lot of burglaries in Eagle Rock and I feel like just nothing gets done.”

Vuagniaux says she’s grateful her family wasn’t home at the time, but the incident has left her worrying if she can ever feel comfortable at home again.
