SAN FERNANDO (KABC) — A man who police say was attacking a woman with a shovel was shot and killed by officers in San Fernando overnight.

Officers responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at Third Street and Maclay Avenue around 11:45 p.m. Monday, according to the San Fernando Police Department.
When they arrived at the scene, officers encountered the man who had a shovel in his hands. That’s when they opened fire, killing the suspect.

Interim Chief Anthony Miranda said that the circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation.
It’s unclear if the woman was injured in the alleged attack. The suspect has not been identified.
