SHERMAN OAKS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday after a crash on the 405 Freeway in Sherman Oaks that prompted lane closures and traffic backups.

The crash occurred just before noon on the southbound lanes near the transition to the 101.
According to authorities, the motorcyclist was heading toward the 101 when he fell from his motorcycle. Other vehicles then struck him, killing him.

Several southbound lanes remained closed Wednesday as officials responded to the scene and investigated the crash.
Traffic was backing up near an exit from the freeway as the lunchtime rush began. No additional details were immediately available.
