SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Los Angeles police fatally shot a man Wednesday evening after he was allegedly swinging a bat at bystanders and vehicles, officials said.

The shooting occurred near Normandie Avenue and Washington Boulevard in South L.A., according to the LAPD.

Police said the man was swinging the bat at bystanders and striking cars before officers shot him. Authorities did not immediately release details about what led up to the shooting.

The man was taken to a hospital after being shot and was later pronounced dead, police said.
