LANCASTER, Calif. (KABC) — A man was hospitalized after being shot by sheriff’s deputies responding to a domestic violence call in Lancaster on Labor Day.

Deputies responded to the 44000 block of 15th Street West just before 10 a.m. Monday for a incident involving domestic violence, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The department said the call stated that a man with a gun was trying to force his ex-wife into a vehicle.
“The suspect was in possession of a handgun and he had his ex-wife in a headlock. When the suspect pointed his handgun and fired at deputies, a deputy involved shooting occurred,” the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.

The suspect was struck by gunfire and taken to a local hospital where he is listed in stable condition. Neither the deputies or the victim were injured, the department said.
Deputies recovered a firearm from the scene.
One witness said she was able to see what happened outside her home.
“I could see right before they, he pulled up, he had walked in between the cars with a gun. They told him ‘put the gun down, put the gun down’ at that first car right there and then another one pulled up and they was telling him to put the gun down, put the gun down. That’s when they had taken a knee. And they said “shots fired!” the witness said.
The investigation is ongoing.
