TARZANA, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A homeowner’s Ring camera captured a rare wildlife encounter in Tarzana, showing a bear crossing paths with two coyotes just a few miles from Ventura Boulevard and the 101 Freeway.

The video shows the bear encountering the two coyotes in a residential area. While the bear might appear to have the advantage, the larger of the two coyotes repeatedly confronted the animal as it stayed near the smaller coyote.
“The bigger coyote was really trying to keep the bear away from the little one,” said homeowner Richard Hurwitz. “Several times, it went toward the bear just to kind of protect the little one. I just thought, ‘Oh my God. I can’t wait to show this to somebody.'”

Hurwitz said the bear eventually moved away from the area. Even after the bear trotted off, the larger coyote charged several more times to ensure it kept its distance.
