LINCOLN HEIGHTS, Calif. (KABC) — A pedestrian was reportedly struck and killed on the 5 Freeway in the Lincoln Heights area, forcing the closure of several southbound lanes Monday morning.

The crash was reported around 3:40 a.m. at Main Street, according to the California Highway Patrol’s traffic log.

AIR7 was over the scene where there was a yellow sheet that appeared to be covering a body in the middle of lanes. Details about the incident were not available, but authorities confirmed it was fatal.

The entire southbound side of the freeway was shut down before the far left lane was reopened, creating a significant traffic backup for morning commuters.
