COMPTON, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A 3.1-magnitude earthquake centered near Compton shook the South Los Angeles area Thursday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake struck around 1:32 p.m. with its epicenter about 2.5 miles south-southeast of Compton. It was recorded at a depth of 8.2 miles, the USGS says.
