1 critically injured, evacuations underway after fire at LA motel involving fireworks, LAFD says

WILMINGTON, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Evacuations are underway in the Wilmington area of Los Angeles after firefighters came across a large number of fireworks during an emergency call Friday night, authorities said.

The L.A. Fire Department said crews responded to the 1100 block of W. Pacific Coast Highway at about 8:30 p.m. for reports of multiple cars catching on fire in the parking lot of a motel. The department says fireworks may be to blame.

One person was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Firefighters found a large pile of fireworks, according to LAFD. The bomb squad is responding to the scene.

It’s unknown how many people are being evacuated.
