Family members identified the woman as Veronica Lopez. Her father, Coby Lopez, described her as the youngest of five daughters.

“She was my youngest out of five daughters, she was always happy when we saw her,” he said.

“Veronica was a wonderful, wonderful daughter; very vibrant, happy and a go-getter,” said Sheila Lopez.

Police said the suspect fled the scene after the shooting in a black Kia sedan. A short time later, an automatic license plate reader detected the vehicle on the northbound 5 Freeway in Sylmar, prompting a pursuit that lasted about an hour and a half.
