BOYLE HEIGHTS, EAST LOS ANGELES (KABC) — <\/span>Since actor Xolo Maridue\u00f1a was a teenager, the Boyle Heights Youth Festival has been a part of his life. This annual event for the community is organized and put on mostly by teenagers. Making it happen takes months of commitment, creativity, hard work and love.<\/p>\n

“I wish that there was an event that went on like this for every neighborhood,” said Maridue\u00f1a.<\/p>\n

The signs are going up now for this year’s Boyle Heights Youth Festival.<\/p>\n

“We’ve been planning this ever since December of last year,” said Adrian Salinas. “Just giving brings me joy to my core, to my soul. It energizes me. And I think just working with the community itself is impactful.”<\/p>\n

There will be activities, food, music and more. The 17-year-old handling this year’s performers used to just come as a member of the community.<\/p>\n

“After coming, getting the free paletas, doing rock climbing, meeting people, it is such an honor to give back to my community as much as they’ve given to me. And I want to give back more,” said Osh\u00fan Ramirez.<\/p>\n

Maridue\u00f1a grew up in the East L.A. area before rising to fame in such projects as “Blue Beetle” and his work on the streaming series “Cobra Kai.”<\/p>\n

He’s currently doing a podcast with Jacob Bertrand, his best friend and “Cobra Kai” co-star, called “The Lone Lobos.” They’re bringing it to the festival.<\/p>\n

“I remember, not too long ago, I was helping kind of coordinate and bring stuff together. And now there’s a whole new generation of youngsters who are bringing their ideas and bringing themselves to this,” said Maridue\u00f1a. “My family helps put on the event, so it’s a family affair. I will always be here helping my fam in any way that they see fit. And we’re ready to welcome you with open arms. It’s the Boyle Heights Youth Festival, but it is not for people just in Boyle Heights. It’s not just for youth. You can be any age, come from anywhere. You can bring your dog!”<\/p>\n

If you’d like to check out the Boyle Heights Youth Festival, it’s taking place on Saturday, June 6, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the area of Ross Valencia Community Park.<\/p>\n
