CARPINTERIA, Calif. (KABC) — <\/span>A fire broke out aboard a natural gas platform about eight miles off the coast of Carpinteria on Monday, forcing the evacuation of over two dozen crew members.<\/p>\n

There were 26 crew members on “Platform Habitat” who safely evacuated, authorities said. Two crew members reportedly had very minor injuries.<\/p>\n

The fire was first reported just after 7 a.m.<\/p>\n

There is no oil on the platform, and instead, it’s all natural gas. A 1,000-yard safety zone was set up around the platform in response to the fire.<\/p>\n

The U.S. Coast Guard said the fire was under control by 1:30 p.m., and personnel were being transferred back to the platform to conduct safety work.<\/p>\n

It’s unknown what caused the fire. The investigation is ongoing.<\/p>\n
