LOS ANGELES (KABC) — <\/span>Two Southern California high school seniors were awarded a prestigious $20,000 scholarship and honored as one of Coca-Cola’s annual scholars.<\/p>\n

Each year, only 150 students out of tens of thousands nationwide are chosen for this scholarship.<\/p>\n

Andres Gonzalez, a student at Garfield High School in East Los Angeles, and Axel Berganza, a Mendez High School student in Boyle Heights, were both selected for the scholarship.<\/p>\n

Gonzalez will be attending Harvard University this upcoming fall, while Berganza will be headed to Stanford University. Berganza was an intern at Stanford’s department of pathology. He’s also the co-developer of a UCLA-affiliated mental health app serving underresourced communities.<\/p>\n

Both students were recently in Atlanta, Georgia, to be recognized for this achievement as a Coca-Cola Scholar.<\/p>\n
