LANCASTER, Calif. (KABC) — <\/span>A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy was injured and a male suspect was killed in a deputy involved shooting Saturday afternoon in an unincorporated area of Lancaster, authorities said.<\/p>\n

A Lancaster sheriff’s station deputy was responding to a call of a man brandishing two knives near Lancaster Boulevard and Sierra Highway.<\/p>\n

The suspect stabbed the deputy, and a deputy involved shooting occurred, according to the sheriff’s department.<\/p>\n

Homicide investigators with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene at about 2 p.m.<\/p>\n

The deputy was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n

The suspect was struck by gunfire, taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead.<\/p>\n

Sheriff Robert G. Luna said the injured deputy is expected to recover.<\/p>\n

“We are grateful that our deputy sustained non-life-threatening injuries and will be returning home to their loved ones,” Luna said. “Incidents like this are a stark reminder that every day, law enforcement professionals like our Deputies step into unpredictable and rapidly evolving situations in service to protecting our communities.”<\/p>\n

The investigation remains ongoing.<\/p>\n
