NEWHALL, Calif. (KABC) — <\/span>California Highway Patrol officers took a possibly armed driver into custody after a lengthy chase in the Santa Clarita Valley.<\/p>\n

The pursuit reportedly began in the Pomona area. A shooting reportedly occurred in Pomona earlier in the day but it was not confirmed if this chase was connected.<\/p>\n

At one point during the chase, the suspect made a U-turn and began traveling southbound on the 5 Freeway in the Newhall area before transitioning onto surface streets in the Castaic area, then onto Lake Hughes Road.<\/p>\n

The driver ran off the road for a few seconds and threw several objects out of the window.<\/p>\n

The suspect was seen recklessly swerving on Lakes Hughes Road, occasionally crossing the double yellow lines.<\/p>\n

Eventually, the front tire on the driver’s side was damaged.<\/p>\n

The driver then took to the surface streets near Elizabeth Lake Road and Lookabout Road in the Elizabeth Lake area, continuing to elude law enforcement into Lancaster. Officers executed a PIT maneuver near 20th Street West and West Avenue K, where the suspect’s vehicle was stopped and he was taken into custody.<\/p>\n
