Paulinho Garcia graduated from Los Angeles City College at the Greek Theatre.
He got an associate transfer degree in music with the highest summa cum laude honors.
Though Garcia had lots of experience, he never had formal education before enrolling at LACC.

On Tuesday, he got to walk across the stage with his peers.
“I thought I’d like to have a degree, a bachelor’s degree, it’s something I always (wanted). I’ve been a self-taught musician all my life,” Garcia said. “I’m going to try all the way up to even a master’s degree if I can keep myself straight and strong.”

More than 1,800 graduates were part of Tuesday’s ceremony.
