Family members have identified the victim as Ronaldo Perez, who recently turned 20 years old. They say he was heading home from work last Tuesday when he was hit by a driver at the intersection of Downey Avenue and Andy Street.

While he was still on the ground, Long Beach police say a second driver struck him and did not stop. A search is now underway for that driver.

Francisco Perez, the victim’s brother, is pleading for that person to come forward.

“My message for the person that hit my brother that night, I want him or her to find it in your heart… I don’t know if you have any loved ones but I wouldn’t even want to wish it on you right now. But may God take care of you because my brother has been fighting, night after night, and I have been right beside him… teaching him to breathe, how to move, he’s back to being a baby. And it’s not fair because he was exiting work. He wasn’t doing anything.”

Ronaldo had brain surgery and has bruises all over his body.

The family has set up a GoFundMe account to help with his medical expenses and recovery.
