The Carson Sheriff’s Station and the city of Carson plans to hold a news conference at 10 a.m. Thursday to discuss the two bodies found in the area.

Officials are expected to provide further information during the briefing.

It comes after the child’s body was found Tuesday floating in the Dominguez Channel near the Victoria Park Golf Course in Carson, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. A patron of the golf course spotted the body and called emergency services.

On Wednesday, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed the badly decomposed remains were those of a female between the ages of 6 and 13.

According to the Medical Examiner, the child had brown eyes and brown hair and weighed 59 pounds.
