DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Los Angeles firefighters battled a large blaze at a commercial building in downtown L.A. that left one firefighter hospitalized with minor injuries.

The L.A. Fire Department initially stated that three people were transported to the hospital before eventually retracting that information, saying only the one firefighters was taken to the hospital.
The blaze at the two-story building with a mezzanine, at 1225 S. Hope St., broke out at 3:58 a.m., according to fire officials. Heavy fire and smoke were seen coming from the building.
Firefighters eventually shifted from offensive to defensive mode. LAFD spokesperson Jamie Stewart said all firefighters were ordered out of the building and arson and emergency air units were requested to the scene.

The fire was declared knocked down at 5:52 a.m. It took approximately 124 LAFD firefighters to extinguished the flames, Stewart said.
Hope Street remains closed in the area as firefighters work to mop up.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
A shelter-in-place order was issued during the incident for a nearby high rise building, but no evacuations were ordered.
