LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Fans took to the streets across Los Angeles on Tuesday night to celebrate Mexico’s victory over Ecuador in the World Cup.

AIR7 was over Whittier Boulevard in East Los Angeles, where fans gathered at an intersection waving green, white and red Mexican flags in celebration.

Fans took to the streets across Los Angeles to celebrate Mexico’s victory over Ecuador in the World Cup.

Similar scenes unfolded in Huntington Park and Boyle Heights, where gatherings shut down intersections.

In the San Fernando Valley, AIR7 captured fireworks lighting up the night sky.

Mexico defeated Ecuador 2-0, earning its first World Cup knockout-stage victory in 40 years. The team will play in the Round of 16 on Sunday.
