NEWHALL, Calif. (KABC) — California Highway Patrol officers took a possibly armed driver into custody after a lengthy chase in the Santa Clarita Valley.

The pursuit reportedly began in the Pomona area. A shooting reportedly occurred in Pomona earlier in the day but it was not confirmed if this chase was connected.
At one point during the chase, the suspect made a U-turn and began traveling southbound on the 5 Freeway in the Newhall area before transitioning onto surface streets in the Castaic area, then onto Lake Hughes Road.
The driver ran off the road for a few seconds and threw several objects out of the window.

The suspect was seen recklessly swerving on Lakes Hughes Road, occasionally crossing the double yellow lines.
Eventually, the front tire on the driver’s side was damaged.
The driver then took to the surface streets near Elizabeth Lake Road and Lookabout Road in the Elizabeth Lake area, continuing to elude law enforcement into Lancaster. Officers executed a PIT maneuver near 20th Street West and West Avenue K, where the suspect’s vehicle was stopped and he was taken into custody.
