EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (KABC) — An 8-year-old child from El Segundo died after an apparent drowning during a World Cup gathering Friday evening, according to authorities.

Police and fire crews responded just before 7:30 p.m. to the 700 block of California Street for a report of an unresponsive child, according to the El Segundo Police Department. Emergency crews provided lifesaving measures at the scene before the child was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he were pronounced dead, police said.
The incident happened at another family’s home during a World Cup watch party, authorities said. Investigators are handling the case as a tragic accident and said there is nothing to indicate criminal negligence.
A GoFundMe page set up to help the family with expenses related to this tragedy identified the child as 8-year-old Taylor Thach, a student at Center Street Elementary School.

“Taylor had been a Cougar since kindergarten and was a beloved member of the school community. He was known for his kind heart and friendly spirit. Affectionate and polite, he often went out of his way to ask others how they were doing or to wish them a good day. He brought joy to those around him,” the GoFundMe page said.
The fundraiser also confirmed that the 8-year-old had passed away “following an accidental drowning.”

The school said counseling would be offered to students and staff.
No further details were immediately known.
